Independent Councillor for the Howden Ward
I have been a proud resident of Howden for the last eight years, in which time I have grown to love both the town and the people that make it so special.
As your local ward councillor I promise to be accessible, active and engaged and be a tireless advocate for Howden, Knedlington, Asselby and Barmby on the Marsh.
The older I get I find myself becoming more and more impatient.
Accepting the status quo, finding change difficult and just shrugging your shoulders with a resigned 'It is what it is' simply doesn't cut it for me - we should be aiming to do better.

There is a wise saying:
If you always do what you always done, you will always get what you've always had.

Local elections are a prime example, up until now, every four years have we vote for someone based on their, and our, party affiliation - but this time around you have voted for something different.

This time around you are sending a representative to Beverley who actually lives in the town and cares about its people and its future.

In general elections we are vote for a government to deliver the big stuff, make huge decisions and set the tone, politically, socially and economically for us all.

Local government isn't at all like that - it's about the small stuff, everyday things like buses and bins, pavements and potholes, parking and planning.

Local government should be about local people looking after 'the small stuff' and doing their best to make everyday life just that bit better for their community.

I promise this is exactly what I will try to do.
I will never accept that 'it is what it is'.
