Hi! I’m David,

Father, grandfather and local councillor

We moved to Howden in 2015 from York, I have three daughters, one step-son, four grandchildren and two cats - and I fully intend to stay here for the rest of my life.

I have had a 45 year career, first in theatre and then in event and video production, and I have worked on events and shows in over 40 countries on four continents.

Working with my wife Dawn, who runs her own business change consultancy, we have been involved in the local voluntary sector since we moved here, starting with the Christmas and Company events which we run every Christmas Day and setting up Howden Helpers, co-ordinating the delivery over 1,000 shopping and prescription orders over the Covid lockdown periods.

In December 2022 we launched the Howden Warm Welcoming space in conjunction with the Shire Hall, giving people somewhere warm to meet during the current energy crisis.

I have served on the Town Council for 4 years and I am a trustee of the Shire Hall, and am a trustee of the Moorlands Charity in Goole.

When I joined Howden Town Council since 2019 I was pleasantly surprised by the co-operative spirit and effectiveness that is produced in a group of local people un-encumbered by party loyalties.

I have also seen at first hand how much hard work at a local level can be frustrated by the lack of strong representation and advocacy by a ward councillor at county hall level.

After this experence I strongly believe that national party politics has no place in local government - we elect ward councillors to represent us as individuals, to find answers our questions, to raise local issues and to stand up for our neighbours, rather than representing a national agenda decided in an anonymous party HQ.

I am proud to have been elected Ward Councillor for Howden in May 2023
